Reading the website
The website is a collection of static pages. The site code does not contain analytics trackers, advertising pixels, user accounts, contact forms or newsletter registration. Images and styles are served with the website rather than requested from an external image or font service.
The hosting service may receive technical information needed to deliver and protect the pages, such as an IP address, requested address, browser details and request time. Hosting logs and any platform access controls are managed separately from the page code. Their settings and retention depend on the hosting provider.
If you email us
Your message will include your email address and any information you choose to send. That information may be used to answer your enquiry, investigate a correction and keep relevant correspondence. Please send only the information needed for the enquiry. Email services process messages as part of delivering them.
Purpose, retention and your choices
Enquiry correspondence is used to respond to readers and maintain the accuracy of the journal. The intended basis is the legitimate interest in running and improving this editorial service. Correspondence should be kept only while needed to deal with the enquiry, maintain relevant correction records or meet an applicable obligation; no fixed retention period is claimed here.
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may ask for access, correction, erasure or restriction of your personal information, or object to its use. Providing an email enquiry is voluntary. The website code does not use personal information for automated decisions or profiling.
You may also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office through its complaints service.

Articles may link to museums, conservation resources and other websites. Those services have their own privacy practices. Following a link takes you outside this website.
Questions and requests
Contact the email above to ask about information you have provided, request a correction or raise a privacy concern. Requests will be considered in the context of the applicable data-protection requirements. We may need enough information to identify the relevant correspondence.
